View of Kabul Airport as Evacuation Flights Continue, Following Taliban Takeover in Afghanistan

After the Taliban captured all major provinces in the country, President Ashraf Ghani resigned and left the country. In fear for their future under Taliban rule, thousands of Afghans rushed to the airport in Kabul, hoping to flee the country.

Sputnik goes live from the airport in Kabul, where evacuation flights continue following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan last week.

These flights are being organised for foreign nationals and Afghans who want to leave the country in the wake of the Taliban takeover, which was finalised Sunday when the militants captured Kabul.

Despite the unexpectedly quick offensive by the Taliban, US President Joe Biden has defended his decision to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan by the end of August.
