Video of ‘Arvin’ Cargo Ship Breaking in Half in Turkish Waters Shared Online

Six sailors were killed when the Arvin, a dry cargo ship, sank off the coast of northern Turkey earlier this month. The incident was blamed on poor weather conditions that caused the captain of the Soviet-built freighter to stop at Bartin anchorage to shelter from the storm.

A video was shared on YouTube of the anchored Palau-flagged vessel, operated by Ukrainian-registered company Tesoro Marine, breaking in two and sinking.

The tragedy occurred off the Inkumu Coast in the north of the Bartin province in Turkey, on 17 January. The 12-person crew included ten Ukrainians and two Russians. Six were killed, and the rest were rescued by Turkish Navy vessels.
