New Zealand PM Ardern Welcomes Life Sentence for Christchurch Shooter Tarrant

The judge, Cameron Mander, called Tarrant’s crimes “brutal and beyond callous”, sentencing the Australian to life without parole for killing 51 people and wounding 50 others in brutal terror attacks on the Al Noor Mosque and the Linwood Islamic Centre in March 2019.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has supported the court sentence for Christchurch shooter Brenton Tarrant, saying that he deserves “a lifetime of complete and utter silence”.

Brenton Tarrant, the gunman who shot and killed worshippers in the Christchurch mosque attacks, is seen during his sentencing at the High Court in Christchurch, New Zealand, August 24, 2020.

In March 2019, Tarrant stormed two mosques in the city of Christchurch, live streaming the massacre. He later pleaded guilty to all 51 murder charges, as well as 40 charges of attempted murder, and one charge for engaging in a terrorist act.
