Kyrgyzstan has been rocked by unrest against the results of the parliamentary elections. So far, one person has been killed, with 590 others injured in clashes. President Sooronbay Jeenbekov called the events an attempt to illegally seize power.
Elections to the Kyrgyz parliament were held on 4 October. The turnout was 56.5 percent.
After processing ballots from 98 percent of polling stations, preliminary results showed that four parties had made it into parliament: Birimdik (Unity, pro-government party) with 24.52% of the vote, Mekenim Kyrgyzstan (Native Kyrgyzstan, pro-government party) with 23.89%, Kyrgyzstan (centrist party) with 8.73%, and Butun Kyrgyzstan (United Kyrgyzstan, centrist party) with 7.11%.
