The incident is likely construction-related and not from natural gas, and occurred while crews were working on the building’s air handling and boiler system, according to the company’s statement.
The explosion happened on the 16th floor of the Baltimore Gas & Electric building in downtown Baltimore, largely empty due to the holidays and the pandemic. At least 10 people were injured, nine of them were taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to local authorities.
Two window washers were rescued by a firefighters crew after they were trapped on the exterior of the building when their scaffold was compromised and was left dangling.
