COVID-19 Sceptics Gather in Berlin for ‘Silent March’ Amid Introduction of Tougher Restrictions

The public action comes as Germany is experiencing an uptick in the number of coronavirus cases, which has prompted the authorities to intensify restrictive measures.

Sputnik is live from Berlin as COVID-19 sceptics have gathered in the German capital to protest the new restrictions on public life due to the increase of coronavirus cases.

According to the regulations imposed since Wednesday, all non-essential businesses have been shut down, while people have been banned from gathering for New Year’s Eve.

Germany currently has 1,471,238 confirmed cases. 18 December saw the biggest spike in new cases since the beginning of the pandemic, while new fatalities hit a peak two days before, on 16 December.
